Professional Philosophy
My work as an education and athletic practitioner is based on my belief that educating the whole person is a strong mechanism for overall development. Teaching, teaching about content, teaching them skills in sport, as a trainer of skill set, and as a coach is more than an issue of teaching content or coaching; it’s about character, discipline, and a preparation for success both in and out of sport. My goal is to build a place where all of our students and student athletes feel they can be successful.
In the classroom, I strongly believe in equitable opportunities for all students by meeting students where they are, and by implementing methods that address specific learning needs. I am a teacher of Special Education and I know the value of personalized learning, patience, and consistency. I am an advocate for structure, clear expectations, and meaningful engagement to provide every student with the chance to succeed in both their curriculum and community. I also value collaboration with colleagues, parents, and support staff to set up a coherent learning environment concentrating on student development.
At athletics, my thinking consists of giving a solid base of accountability, effort, and teamwork. I believe that sports are an excellent experience for teaching important life long skills such as leadership, resilience, and responsibility. As a coach I focus on basic structure, instilling confidence, and establishing a team atmosphere that encourages athletes to play competitive, develop their skills better and give each other the support they need. Success is not defined solely by wins and losses, but by the growth and character development of the athletes I serve.
As a future athletic administrator, my goal is to lead with integrity, organization, and student centered mindset. I believe your great athletic programs are built on strong leaders, clear communication and compliance, safety and inclusivity. I aim to create programs that can promote not only academic excellence, but also athletic excellence alongside high ethical standards. I truly believe in community engagement and want athletic programs to be a source of pride and community, including in the school and surrounding area.
Finally, my philosophy focuses on servant leadership (serving the student, athlete and staff first), along with an ethos of continued change, respect and self improvement. It is with my experiences in education and sport administration that I work to make a long term positive difference in the lives and community of those I serve.
